The Value of a Mentor
One of the greatest things you can ever do for yourself, is to find and work with a mentor. This was such a powerful lesson for me, and one I learned first hand when I hired my own coach. Later, I would come to call this idea “The Law of the Mentor”.
This law states: a mentor is the most effective way to decrease any learning curve and simultaneously maximize any nuance of learning while avoiding common failures. You receive a direct download of knowledge and experience from a mentor and you can avoid making the mistakes they did. When you are in a career transition, it may seem counter intuitive to invest financial resources in hiring a mentor, especially when money may be limited. With the investment for a mentor, you learn in a few weeks what I learned over years.
I want to share my experience in some thoughts on why mentors are valuable.
